The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom Awards

The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom™ is embarking on its 12th edition of lawyer and law firm awards for 2024. With more than a decade of awards in the United Kingdom, we are pleased to once again share these superlatives with lawyers, law firms and consumers across the country.

Awards by Best Lawyers are a result of a year spent accepting nominations, engaging in voter outreach and tallying the votes received from the talented lawyers already currently recognized in The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom. Our Purely Peer Review™ methodology is one that we have utilized since the inception of our awards in 1983, and they have become the standard for which we determine and decree the highest of talent in the legal industry.

In 2022, we partnered with trusted United Kingdom news organization The Financial Times to explore some of the most important factors in the legal industry across the U.K., highlighting what it means to be successful in the industry, along with the ever-growing need for more diversity among lawyers and bridging the gender gap in the legal field.

These article pieces remain strikingly relevant today and offer learned lessons for lawyers and law firms alike as the intricacies and nuances of the legal industry continue to grow and thrive.

And growth truly is taking hold in the United Kingdom, as evidenced by our exciting 12th and second edition launches.

For 2024, The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom is recognizing 6,344 lawyers across 137 practice areas. Though London is the top metropolitan area with the most honorees, there are 35 metros in total with recognized lawyers.

Among the 137 practice areas included in The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom awards, the top 10 specialties with the most recognized lawyers are: Employment Law, Real Estate Law, Litigation, Family Law, Personal Injury Litigation, Construction Law, Insolvency and Restructuring Law, Corporate Finance Law, Banking and Finance Law and Intellectual Property Law.

Consumers in the United Kingdom sought lawyers on the Best Lawyers website in these practice areas the most in the past year: Employment Law, Litigation, Real Estate Law, Family Law, Corporate Finance Law, Construction Law, Criminal Practice, Banking and Finance Law, Insolvency and Restructuring Law and Personal Injury Litigation.

“Lawyer of the Year” Awards

The esteemed “Lawyer of the Year” awards, which distinguish one lawyer per practice area in each metropolitan area, are also included in this year’s honorees. For 2024, we awarded 248 lawyers as “Lawyer of the Year” honorees across the United Kingdom.

Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in the United Kingdom

Four years ago, we expanded our award offerings to include lawyers earlier in their practices, with 10 or less years in the legal field. Using the same peer reviewed methodology we have employed for all Best Lawyers awards, our Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in the United Kingdom recognitions highlight up and coming legal talent across the country. For 2024, we are launching the second edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in the United Kingdom, recognizing 487 lawyers across 52 practice areas. Within the 10 metropolitan areas with “Ones to Watch” honorees, 151 firms have awarded lawyers.
