The occupational health and safety practice involves legal work associated with all manner of employment and industrial activities. The work will include providing advice to clients with respect to their compliance obligations under this regulatory regime. This advice is not only to the business but frequently to Boards as Directors have personal responsibilities under occupational health and safety law. This practice area most importantly involves attending upon workplaces after serious incidents have occurred, assisting the business and its staff contend with the Regulators' investigation and then to provide advice and a representation in prosecutions which may be commenced by the State Regulators. Lawyers in this practice are on call 24 hours and will travel to client's workplaces often in distant locations. It will involve liaising with both witnesses and Regulators, often across jurisdictions and assisting in effectively major disaster recovery after significant incidents. The practice area also will require a keen eye for the potential civil litigation ramifications from a major incident.
