Alastair’s practice focuses on regulatory, environmental and Indigenous law. He advises clients on the regulatory aspects of the full life-cycle of project development and operation, including:
- obtaining project and facility approvals
- environmental impact assessments
- consultation with Indigenous groups and other stakeholders
- toll and tariff applications
- environmental monitoring and compliance matters
- contaminated site remediation
- facility decommissioning and site reclamation
Alastair represents clients before the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), and the Canadian Energy Regulator (CER). He also assists clients with administrative/regulatory appeals, judicial review applications, and appeals to the federal and provincial courts of appeal arising from regulatory proceedings.
As a member of the firm’s research and opinions group, Alastair applies his advanced legal research and analysis skills to assist in the drafting of legal opinions, contracts, pleadings, and briefs on a variety of complex transactional and litigation matters.
Alastair graduated from law school at the top of his class. Prior to joining Lawson Lundell, Alastair clerked at the Alberta Court of Appeal, earned his Master of Laws degree, and practiced complex commercial litigation in Calgary and Toronto.
