Amy J. Tawney is a partner in the Charleston office of Bowles Rice and a member of the firm’s Commercial and Financial Services Practice Group and the Financial Services Litigation Practice Group. Ms. Tawney focuses her practice on banking and mergers and acquisitions.
Her banking practice involves advising clients on compliance with federal and state regulations, corporate governance issues, compliance with securities laws and drafting loan documentation for corporate loan transactions.
Ms. Tawney's merger and acquisition practice involves structuring, documenting and managing mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and other corporate transactions.
She also provides general corporate services to all sizes of businesses, including assistance with business formation, commercial lease and contract review, and venture capital and other private financing.
Ms. Tawney earned her bachelor of science degree in political science and accounting from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1996. She received her law degree in 1999 from the West Virginia University College of Law, where she was Third Issue Editor of the West Virginia Law Review and vice-president of the Lugar Trial Association. She was also Order of the Coif, recipient of the Patrick Duffy Koontz Scholarship and a member of the Lugar traveling team.
She was recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the area of Corporate Law. She was also named a Rising Star in Banking by West Virginia Super Lawyers.
Ms. Tawney is admitted to practice in the state of West Virginia and in the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia. She is a member of the West Virginia Bar Association.
