Anthony Herro

Anthony Herro is Principal Solicitor at Herro Solicitors and is one of Sydney’s leading retail lease lawyers. He acts for clients in drafting, advising and negotiating Leases and in resolving Lease disputes.

He possesses an in depth knowledge of Retail Leases Legislation across all States and Territories in Australia (including the Retail Leases Act) and in property law in relation to Leases. He has extensive experience in all aspects of retail and commercial leasing – including complex Lease negotiations and resolution of Lease disputes.

Anthony is regularly invited to present at seminars for lawyers and other professionals on retail leasing including seminars for the Australian Property Institute (API), Legalwise Seminars, LexisNexis, the New South Wales State Legal Conference, the College of Law (Continuing Professional Education), the Eastern Suburbs Law Society, the Inner West Law Society, Television Education Network, VOSS Events and Property Council of Australia. He has delivered hundreds of seminars and papers on retail and commercial Leases, and is a recognised expert in his field.

Anthony’s advice is sought by Government Ministers and Government bodies to advise on proposed amendments to retail Lease legislation. He actively contributes and appears at Government enquiries on retail leasing.

Anthony was part of the Working Group commissioned by the Office of the Small Business Commissioner with respect to proposed amendments to the Retail Leases Act. He is very determined and committed to achieving exemplary and just outcomes for his clients.

Anthony represents clients in Mediation at the Dispute Resolution Unit of the Small Business Commissioner (formerly the Retail Tenancy Unit) and at proceedings in the NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal (NCAT), and in the Courts.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce (with Merit) from the University of New South Wales.

Anthony's previous legal experience includes employment as a solicitor with international law firm Baker & McKenzie and Partner with Herro & Martin Solicitors.

In addition to his legal expertise, Anthony has extensive retail business experience, achieving in 1999 the Westfield Award for Retail Excellence in New South Wales (Men's Fashion.) He has previously held the position of Managing Director of a retail clothing chain for 11 years. His retail experience allows him to empathise and understand retail leasing from the practical perspective of the parties themselves.

Anthony is a Resolution Institute (www.resolution.institute) Accredited Mediator with National Accreditation being registered under the Mediation Act 1997 (ACT). He is a Mediator on the Law Society Mediator’s Panel, the District Court Panel and with the Dispute Resolution Unit of the NSW Small Business Commissioner (formerly called the Retail Tenancy Unit).
