Brett A. Ross is a shareholder at Carr Allison and is resident in the firm’s Birmingham (AL) office. His practice focuses on transportation and in this arena, he has worked on all possible case types, including wrongful death, catastrophic injuries, cargo claims, employment matters, workers’ compensation, collections and on-site accident investigation. Brett has successfully handled more than 50 wrongful death claims in Alabama. He is also a member of Carr Allison’s accident GO TEAM. He represents several major motor carriers throughout Alabama and has significant experience litigating and managing other civil matters, such as employment, products liability and premises cases. Furthermore, he represents numerous insurance companies in the defense of civil litigation.

An AV Preeminent® rated lawyer through Martindale-Hubbell®, Brett has been selected to the Mid-South Super Lawyers® list in the area of Transportation Law since 2011 and The Best Lawyers in America® in 2024. He is a member of numerous organizations including the Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA), the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (ADLA), the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), the Transportation Lawyers Association (TLA) and the Trial Attorneys of America (TAA).

Brett is also very active in DRI, having served in multiple leadership roles, which include program chair of the Trucking Seminar, chair of the Lawyers’ Professionalism and Ethics Committee, chair of the DRI for Life Committee and as a national director. Brett is a frequent lecturer and author for various transportation seminars and publications, having given more than 100 speeches on transportation litigation topics to date. He is a member of the Birmingham, Alabama and American Bar Associations and is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Alabama, before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Brett graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science. Following his undergraduate education, Brett attended the University of Alabama School of Law earning his Juris Doctor, cum laude. While there he was editor of the Journal of the Legal Profession and vice chair of the Moot Court Board.
