Caroline E. Kubovy is an Associate in Wicker Smith’s Jacksonville office where she focuses her practice primarily on matters involving healthcare, licensure, medical malpractice, dental malpractice and Department of Health investigations. In addition to professional liability matters, Ms. Kubovy, who has been practicing for the past 11 years, provides counsel to healthcare providers and vendors, particularly in their efforts to maintain compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) while implementing new channels of health information technology. Along with creating policies, procedures, and compliance forms specifically tailored to the healthcare entity, Ms. Kubovy assists clients by conducting on-site risk assessments and providing recommendations to address identified privacy and security vulnerabilities.

Ms. Kubovy’s unique experience in private practice, as well as in-house, has enabled her to provide strategic business and legal counsel on a range of healthcare issues aimed at reducing risk while improving efficiency. Ms. Kubovy recently completed an executive education program at Harvard Medical School entitled, “Leading Digital Transformation in Health Care” where she enjoyed connecting with healthcare leaders, providers, and innovators from around the world to focus on technology development within the healthcare sector. She was also invited to the American Health Law Association (AHLA) Health Information Technology Practice Group Leadership Development Program and remains an active member to this day.

An avid Cornhusker fan, Ms. Kubovy graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007 with her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, as well as earned minors in Economics and Communication Studies. During that time, Ms. Kubovy studied economics at Oxford University, earned Dean’s List honors, and held leadership positions in a variety of campus organizations.

Ms. Kubovy was the first graduate of Florida Coastal School of Law and Jacksonville University’s JD/MBA program. The dual degree program (in which she earned both her law degree and her master’s degree in Business Administration) was designed to be completed in four years, but with hard work and dedication, Ms. Kubovy was able to earn both degrees in only three years.

While in law school, Ms. Kubovy worked as a research assistant where she aided two Florida Coastal professors in the preparation and publication of their law journal articles and academic texts. She served as both Vice President and Orientation Chair of the Florida Coastal Student Ambassador Program and actively participated in the Mentor/Mentee program.

In 2011, Ms. Kubovy earned her Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law, with certificates in Legal Research, Writing, and Drafting as well as International and Comparative Law. She was admitted to practice in the State of Florida in 2011 and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Florida in 2020. She is an active member of the Florida Bar, Jacksonville Bar, and Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association.

Outside of her practice, Ms. Kubovy enjoys organizing book club gatherings focused on leadership and professional development, improving her golf game, and playing sand volleyball.
