Bringing deep insights on federal energy and climate policy, Courtney Shephard counsels energy companies operating on federal lands on compliance with federal environmental laws and regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act. She also advises on water supplies and water-related infrastructure projects and represents clients in Colorado water court proceedings. Along with her expertise in state water issues, Courtney has experience handling federal administrative appeals within the Bureau of Land Management, the Office of Natural Resources Revenue and the Interior Board of Land Appeals.
An emerging thought leader among peers, Courtney draws on her multifaceted experience to develop creative solutions for her clients. Courtney co-taught interdisciplinary climate change economics and policy courses as a visiting instructor at Colorado College in the 2018-2019 academic year, and has guest lectured on state water law and policy. She also has prior consulting and research experience in environmental law and policy and greenhouse gas emissions. Prior to Brownstein, she worked at two Denver-area law firms focusing on natural resources law.
