Formerly DuMoulin Black’s Managing Partner, J. Douglas Seppala now acts as special counsel. He practises in the areas of corporate and securities law and has extensive experience advising private and public companies domestically and internationally in various transactions, including venture capital and private equity financing, cross border financings, public offerings, stock exchange listings, private placements, take-over bids, mergers and corporate reorganizations, shareholders/proxy disputes, acquisitions and dispositions of shares and assets and joint ventures. He regularly advises directors on corporate governance matters and represents clients before the British Columbia Securities Commission with compliance, registration and exemption matters.
Doug was selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers® (2021) in Canada for his work in Venture Capital Law, Corporate Law M&A Law, and Securities Law. Doug was recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (24th Edition) as Repeatedly Recommended in Corporate Finance & Securities. Doug represents clients in a wide variety of industries, including life sciences, technology and natural resources. He has had a wide range of practical business experience, having been involved as a director, management and co-founder of several successful businesses.
In 1987, Doug was seconded to the British Columbia Securities Commission as a policy advisor. While at the Commission, he was involved in revising the Securities Act and Regulations, reviewing exemption applications and reformulating various policy matters. He has also served as a member of the British Columbia Securities Commission Securities Law Advisory Committee.
