J. Gregory Milmoe brings to his practice wide-ranging corporate experience including in-court and out-of-court restructurings, hostile and negotiated mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts and corporate financings including initial public offerings and transactions involving REITs. He draws on this experience to help fashion pragmatic, sometimes novel, solutions to complex problems that frequently blend and adapt techniques from various legal disciplines. Well known for his role in the Long Term Capital rescue, Mr. Milmoe has been described in Chambers USA as "one of the standard bearing icons of this industry ( ... ) considered a dean of corporate restructuring and a leading authority on exchange offers.
Mr. Milmoe has played a leading role in numerous significant restructuring matters including: bankruptcies (CIT, Refco, Interstate Bakeries, Source Interlink, Exodus Communications, Aurora Foods and IGC); exchange offers and workouts (Harrah’s, Realogy, Revlon, FECC, FGIC, Fairfield Manufacturing, Alamosa, Mirant and ITC^DeltaCom); and “stress M&A” (the NHL’s acquisition of the Phoenix Coyotes, Verizon Wireless’ acquisition of NextWave, McKesson’s acquisition of Foxmeyer Corp., Fortress Investment Group’s acquisitions of Pinnacle, Brookdale and NBA, and Dean Foods’ acquisition of assets from Parmalat USA).
Mr. Milmoe is listed in the K&A Restructuring Register, the peer group listing of the top restructuring attorneys and financial advisors in the United States; is ranked as a "senior statesmen" for bankruptcy/restructuring in both Chambers Global andChambers USA; has been named by Turnarounds & Workouts to its list of the top dozen restructuring lawyers in America; has been included in IFLR1000; and was named a "Dealmaker of the Year" by The American Lawyer in 2007. He is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy.
In 2006, he was honored by the Partnership for Afterschool Education (PASE) as its Afterschool Champion and in 2008, 2009 and 2010 he helped win the Lawyers Cup for Skadden’s Ice Hockey Team in an annual game to benefit Ice Hockey in Harlem.
Mr. Milmoe began his career with Skadden in 1971 as a mailroom assistant.
