A recognized leader in public finance law, Janet Goelz Hoffman helps nonprofit organizations find a productive balance between their missions and their margins. With decades of experience, she regularly handles financings for nonprofit organizations including hospital systems, cultural and educational institutions, and continuing care retirement communities. Janet also advises nonprofit organizations on board governance and conflict of interest issues.
Janet helps nonprofit clients address financing and governance issues with a calm, visionary approach to the complex, multilayered requirements of debt negotiation and documentation. She frequently acts as bond, underwriter's, borrower's and credit enhancer's counsel and prides herself on her ability to educate and protect clients involved in unfamiliar complex debt and restructuring transactions and to provide advice and guidance in a variety of compliance-related issues arising in both taxable and tax-exempt financings. In addition, Janet is extremely active in community organizations. She is the chair of the board of directors of the Leslie Shankman School Corporation that owns and operates the Hyde Park Day School and the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School. She is also a member of the board of directors of Three Crowns Foundation, which supports Three Crowns Park, a 125-year-old retirement community (chair, 2012–2013), and the Foundation for the Educational Development of Children. She has served on the team that successfully negotiated a new electricity franchise with Commonwealth Edison on behalf of the City of Evanston, Illinois.Janet is a frequent panelist at the National Association of Bond Lawyers' Bond Attorneys' Workshop and annually contributes to Financial Products: Taxation, Regulation and Design (CCH) with respect to municipal securities.
