Jerry Harris’ practice covers a broad and complex range of intellectual property issues with a primary focus on patents and trademarks. His straightforward yet persuasive communication style is key to understanding what his clients want and helping them achieve their desired goals.

With substantial experience representing both patentees and alleged infringers, Jerry possesses a unique perspective regarding IP litigation. He has also developed a significant trademark practice advising clients on clearance issues, disputes, infringements, licensing, operations and cancellations, as well as assisting with preparation and prosecution. Since the patenting and trademark processes can be challenging and costly, Jerry guides his clients in navigating the process to find the best outcome.

As a former registered contract adviser to the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), Jerry developed key negotiation and counseling strategies that benefit his clients.

Jerry’s practice covers virtually all aspects of IP and patent law including invalidity opinions, non-infringement opinions, freedom to operate opinions, domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, as well as client counseling related to patent issues. In the course of his career, Jerry has assisted clients with polymer compositions, catalysts, and processing; pharmaceutical compositions and methods of treatment; petroleum exploration and refining; computer software, frameworks, and methods; mechanical devices, including oilfield tools, electromechanical devices, and medical devices; and business methods.

Easygoing, approachable and valued for being a good listener, Jerry knows it is critical to build solid relationships right from the start. Because of that, he strives to get to know who his clients are, what they do and want to do. This enables Jerry to help those new clients and clients recommended to him from his colleagues to take their ideas and turn them into a reality.

Jerry is actively involved in the legal community on a local and national level. Bolstering his legal experience are many years assisting boards of directors, special committees, and shareholders in a wide variety of legal matters.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Jerry was a partner with Wick Phillips and a shareholder in the IP boutique firm of Conley Rose, both in Dallas, and served as a litigator for Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP in Wilmington, Delaware.
