John Leininger joined Otteson Shapiro's Dallas office in January, 2016.

Mr. Leininger is a key member of the firm’s Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights and Litigation practice areas. He focuses on core bankruptcy matters, bankruptcy litigation, and general civil litigation.

He was named to The Best Lawyers in America© 2021 for his work in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law.

After graduating law school, Mr. Leininger served as a law clerk to the Honorable Bill Parker, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Texas. In the years since his service to the Bankruptcy Court ended, he has gained extensive experience in bankruptcy courts and state courts. His recent representative matters include:

GR Lodging, LLC, et al.: Counsel to secured lender in bankruptcy cases involving multi-million hotel loans

Holiday 360, Ltd. et al.: Counsel to debtors in successful reorganization of corporate debt resulting in one-hundred percent payment to all creditors

Springcrest Partners, LLC: Successfully defeated confirmation of plan seeking to cram down lender’s claim on a multi-family loan

Operating Entities

Med-Depot Holdings, LLC: counsel to debtor in reorganization of supplier of medical equipment to hospice providers

Mountain Top Enterprises, LLC: counsel to debtor in reorganization commercial roofing company

Other

Life Partners Holdings, Inc., et al.: Counsel to putative class action seeking to preserve investors interests in investments sold in $2.4 billion life insurance portfolio

Guaranty Financial Group, Inc.: defended former bank officer in litigation brought by trustee of bank holding company to recover salary and bonus payments made to former officer

Crown Automotive Group, LLC: litigation counsel for chapter 7 trustee

In addition to the foregoing, Mr. Leininger has represented creditors and debtors in out of court restructurings and collection matters.

Mr. Leininger graduated from South Texas College of Law and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from the University of Houston.
