John Steiner oversees the firm’s administrative departments, including Finance, IT, HR, and Marketing and is a member of the Management Committee.

John is a regular lecturer on various bankruptcy and creditors’ rights law matters. John represents and provides advice and counsel to creditors, debtors, creditors’ committees, lenders, bankruptcy trustees, and purchasers of assets in Chapter 11 bankruptcies, state court receiverships, and other insolvency proceedings. He also represents and provides advice to both debtors and creditors in out-of-court workouts and restructurings. Over the course of John’s career, he has represented and assisted numerous creditors in the collection of debts, from the filing of actions to obtain judgment, to enforcement and execution.

John was lead debtor’s counsel in the successful Chapter 11 reorganization of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Pittsburgh’s professional soccer team, and its stadium, Highmark Stadium. Recently, John was selected to represent the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the Somerset Regional Water Resources, LLC Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Case. John’s experience includes:

Bankruptcy Planning, Proceedings, and Litigation

• Representation of commercial debtors in all facets of the bankruptcy process

• Representation of creditors’ committees

• Representation of secured creditors

• Representation of trade creditors

• Representation of landlords

• Representation of bankruptcy trustees

• Representation of buyers in bankruptcy asset sales and related transactions

• Prosecution and defense of numerous adversary proceedings, both simple and complex, including but not limited to, avoidance actions, discharge, claims resolution, secured status and asset recovery

Collection

• Assisted numerous creditors in collection of both secured and unsecured debts, judgments, and other claims through both state and federal execution proceedings, including Article 9 sales and mortgage foreclosures

State Court Receivership

• Seeking appointment of receiver to protect interests of lender

• Representation of receivers

• Protecting and preserving business property for benefit of creditors

Turnarounds, Workouts, and Restructurings

• Negotiating, restructuring and documenting of defaulted loans outside of bankruptcy representing both lenders and debtors

Liquidation and Insolvency

• Winding up business in orderly fashion outside of bankruptcy in the most advantageous manner possible to the equity holders, creditors, and employees
