John Byrnes is a government, regulatory & internal investigations partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. John's practice focuses on enforcement and regulatory matters for financial institutions, as well as government regulatory litigation. He has handled enforcement actions and other regulatory matters before the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Department of Justice, and has drafted amicus briefs on various securities law issues. John has also handled litigation matters for a broad range of clients navigating government investigations, administrative approvals and rulemakings, and complex regulatory regimes – including Native American tribes, universities, defense contractors, and healthcare companies. John has experience litigating cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts, in administrative proceedings, and before private arbitrators. John has also advised clients in protecting sensitive information requested from government agencies under the Freedom of Information Act and state analogues.
