The author of numerous articles regarding tax, corporate law and alternative dispute resolution matters, Kay has been trained as a mediator by the American Arbitration Association and serves as a volunteer arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau. She has also served as external mediator for the EEOC. Kay has taught Business Law and Legal Environment of Business at UAB and frequently lectures at tax seminars for lawyers and accountants. Kay was quoted in Newsweek (April 16, 2007) for her estate planning related advice.

Professional and Civic Affiliations

Kay was selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Federal Tax Clinic, Inc. and serves on its By-laws committee. She has held a number of leadership positions in the Alabama State Bar Association, including service as the Vice-Chairperson of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and Chairperson of the Media Relations Subcommittee. Kay currently serves as Co-Chair of the Scholarship Committee and member of the Probate Committee for the Birmingham Bar Association. She has been selected to serve on the Alabama Law Institute's Partition of Heirs Property Act Committee to review related issues for potential proposed state legislation. She is also a member of the Estate Planning Council of Birmingham, the American Bar Association, the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Professional Advisory Council, the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham, The Women's Network, and is a past member of the Financial Planning Association of North Alabama.

Kay is involved in a number of civic, community and professional organizations. She is an alumnus of Leadership Birmingham and is a member of the Birmingham Business Alliance serving on its Finance and Tax Committee. Kay also has served as a member and as President of the Vestavia Hills Board of Education. She is a past board member of the Vestavia Hills Education Foundation and a past President of Leadership Vestavia Hills. She is a past Trustee of the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors and as Vice-President - Education for the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce and has frequently served as a member of the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast committee.

Kay was selected to be a member of the Newcomen Society of Alabama. Kay was also selected as a member of a Leadership Class of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Alabama-Mississippi Chapter (NMSS) and serves as an Advisory Council member for NMSS. Kay was one of thirteen Alabama women selected for the 2009 Women's Exchange Profiles, which recognizes, honors, and promotes the accomplishments and contributions of Alabama women.

Kay has supported various charities in a volunteer leadership capacity. She was selected as a charter member of the Mid-Alabama Region American Red Cross Legacy Society. As a team captain in the 2009 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (for breast cancer research), Kay was listed as the third highest individual fundraiser for the Birmingham race. Kay was the top individual fundraiser and her team, Pink Link, was the top fundraising team for the 2011 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which involved over 17,000 participants. In addition, she was awarded the Violeta Caceres "Pink Lady" Award for her inspiration to "Ignite Passion" in memory of Dr. Violeta Caceres, a long-time avid supporter of the Race of the Cure. She has continued to be a top fundraiser for the Race for the Cure. She has served in various leadership capacities in the Civiettes Club organization engaged in fundraising for the United Cerebral Palsy Center.
