Keith Covington is a partner in the firm’s Birmingham, Alabama office where he practices labor and employment, immigration, and construction law. Keith counsels employers on a wide variety of topics, including labor relations, union avoidance, equal employment opportunity, OSHA compliance, disability accommodation, non-compete agreements, and issues relating to employee discipline and termination. His immigration practice includes worksite compliance and obtaining employer-based non-immigrant and immigrant visas for foreign national employees. He provides labor and employment and immigration advice to clients in a broad range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, hospitality and food services, health care, energy, and financial and professional services. Keith’s construction practice includes advising contractors and others in the construction industry on contracts, contract administration, and claims. He also provides assistance with union representation elections and handles matters before the National Labor Relations Board. Keith regularly litigates employment, construction, and other types of claims in both state and federal courts.
Keith regularly speaks and writes on various topics relating to his practice. In 2009, he co-authored the Alabama Construction Law Manual published by Thomson West, writing the “Labor and Employment” and “Health and Safety” Chapters. Several of Keith’s articles have appeared in the Alabama Construction News, the industry magazine published by the Alabama Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), the trade association for merit shop construction contractors. Keith also wrote an article on the E-Verify requirements for federal contractors, which was published in the Construction Business Owners magazine.
Keith has been a member of the ABC organization for over 15 years. He regularly attends ABC’s Attorneys Conference, which is held yearly for attorneys who do work for ABC’s local chapters and their members, and has served on the Legislative and Safety Committees for ABC’s Alabama Chapter. Keith is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
