Liam Murphy is a tax partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Liam advises public companies and private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies on the tax aspects of complex domestic and cross-border business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, spin-offs, restructurings, public offerings and other financings.
Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Liam Murphy was an associate in Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz’s Tax Department where he focuses on the tax aspects of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, spinoffs and financial instruments. Liam Murphy was also an associate in Weil, Gotshall & Manges LLP's Tax Department.
Liam Murphy received a B.A. in Accounting from Michigan State University and received his M.A. in Accounting from the University of Michigan. Liam Murphy received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a James Kent Scholar and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and received an LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law.
