Liberty J. Weyandt is the Chair of the Family Law Practice Group. She concentrates her practice in family matters including divorce, equitable distribution, support, child custody, and pre and post nuptial agreements. Liberty has more than 23 years of experience litigating various family matters in several Pennsylvania counties, including Allegheny and Butler counties.
In addition to extensive, traditional litigation experience, she is also a trained Collaborative Law attorney and Mediator. Liberty has been helping clients resolve disputes respectfully, without going to court for more than sixteen years. The Collaborative Process is a method of resolving a dispute whereby each party voluntarily agrees to work with a specially trained attorney, and sometimes other allied professionals, with the goal of reaching a mutually agreeable settlement that focuses on the specific interests of the parties. The Collaborative Process gives clients the ability to be an active participant in negotiation and to create personalized solutions, instead of leaving the decision of the outcome to a judge. The process can be more efficient and effective than traditional litigation in terms of both time and money, with the added benefits of protecting privacy and preserving family relationships.
Liberty’s collaborative practice is not limited to family matters, as probate and employment matters can also be handled collaboratively. She has significant experience assisting clients with estate planning and probate, as well as employment matters.
Liberty is a founding member of “The Collaborative Law Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania (CLASP), where she has served is several Board positions. She is also a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and has served as Chair of the Collaborative Committee. Liberty has been recognized as a “Superlawyer,” by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and has a Distinguished rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
Liberty is actively involved in the community. She resides in Hampton Township with her family. She is the President of the Hampton Band Alumni Association, which she created as a non-profit in 2017 and has served as a VP on the Hampton Band Association. She also contributes as a volunteer with various children and youth ministries at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she served for many years as a lay-leader and as Secretary of Church Council.
