Lynn S. Clarke

Lynn Clarke serves as Special Counsel in the Charleston office of Bowles Rice and is a member of the Benefits Group.

Ms. Clarke advises employers on ERISA and tax compliance for employee benefit plans and provides advice concerning executive compensation planning. She often provides advice on benefits matters and executive compensation to clients involved in mergers and acquisitions. Ms. Clarke also provides fiduciary advisory services, including consulting, training and educational seminars to help clients better understand and carry out fiduciary obligations and manage liability. With extensive experience in tax planning, Ms. Clarke also provides advice to non-profit entities on governmental plan compliance and tax matters.

She earned her law degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. Ms. Clarke holds a bachelor of arts degree from University of Chicago, where she graduated with honors. In 2009, she received her masters of studies degree from the University of Cambridge. Ms. Clarke is a trained and certified securities arbitrator, licensed with the National Association of Securities Dealers. She is a member of several professional and community organizations, including the Harvard Club of West Virginia. Ms. Clarke is a board member of the Fund for the Arts of Charleston, West Virginia, and serves as the Fund’s vice president. She is also past president of the South Charleston Civitans Club and the Charleston Exchange Club. Ms. Clarke is a frequent speaker for civic and business organizations.

Ms. Clarke was named Best Lawyers’ 2014 Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law Lawyer of the Year in the southern West Virginia region. She is peer-review rated AV in Martindale-Hubbell.

She is admitted to practice in West Virginia and New York. She is a member of the West Virginia State Bar, the New York State Bar, the Kanawha County Bar Association and the West Virginia Bar Association.
