Michael has 20 years’ experience in construction law and litigation obtained at firms in Australia, London, and in-house at some of Australia’s leading contractors.
Michael’s advice is clear, pragmatic and considered. His comprehensive understanding of how major contractors operate, based on his own experience, gives him an appreciation of how legal and commercial risks fit within the bigger picture.
He has also been involved in many high profile and complex construction disputes across Australia and London including:
- WestConnex Motorway (New South Wales)
- Toowoomba Rail Clearance (Queensland)
- Olympic Dam (South Australia)
- Clem7 Tunnel (Queensland)
- Inland Rail Program (New South Wales)
- Wembley Stadium (England)
- Dreamworld Rollercoaster (Gold Coast)
- University of Sunshine Coast Hospital (Sunshine Coast)
- Battlefield Airlifter Project (Queensland)
During his time as the Assistant General Counsel (Operations) at Thiess Services, Michael advised on major construction and infrastructure projects. He recognises the importance of promptly identifying the key issues and developing the dispute resolution strategy with his client. When a settlement cannot be negotiated, Michael will analyse the evidence further and develop strong arguments for any adjudication, litigation or arbitration process. He has had many successes in Courts, adjudication and other forms of dispute resolution.
Michael works closely with the team on contract reviews to ensure that risks are identified early and are brought to the attention of clients, along with recommendations for different ways to manage the legal and commercial risks identified.
