Practicing law since 1979, Taylor Porter Partner Nancy C. Dougherty is experienced in several practice areas, including higher education law, non-profit and charitable foundation work, governmental law, real estate transactions, museum law, and healthcare. Ms. Dougherty is rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, ranked by Best Lawyers in America, and is a former "Influential Women in Business" honoree by Baton Rouge Business Report for both her professional accomplishments and her contributions to the community. Ms. Dougherty has handled a variety of higher education and public law matters for the Board of Supervisors of Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, and other public and private clients, including health law and Medical Center issues, contract issues, student matters, Buckley issues, leases, servitudes, construction matters, labor and employment issues, dual office holding questions, ethics matters, procurement, including both the drafting of Requests for Proposals and Solicitations for Offer and the handling of protests and appeals, as well as a myriad of other topics. At times, her higher education practice has been concentrated in tax-exempt debt issuances, and she has been instrumental in developing creative financing structures for the LSU Board in connection with a variety of capital projects throughout the LSU System, including third-party financing arrangements through nonprofit LSU support organizations. In more recent years, Ms. Dougherty's practice has included and focused on representing for-profit foundations that support institutions of higher education including the University of New Orleans Foundation, the University of New Orleans Research and Technology Foundation, Inc. and the Southern University System Foundation. Ms. Dougherty’s practice also has involved general real estate matters and title examinations, including mineral title examinations. Most recently, she has assisted clients in qualifying and in filing applications for small business loans pursuant to the SBA's Paycheck Protection Program under the CARES Act. Ms. Dougherty is active in several nonprofit organizations, including currently serving as Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board for the LSU Museum of Art and previously serving as Chairman and a board member of Friends of Magnolia Mound and as a board member of Friends of the LSU Rural Life Museum. Ms. Dougherty has served as Chairman of the Board of First United Methodist Church, Chairman of numerous Junior League Committees, and officer and Board member of Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.
