Richard Cozad is a partner in SBSB Eastham’s New Orleans office with more than 45 years of experience in private law practice. A member of the firm since August 2018, he has focused his years of practice primarily on admiralty, marine insurance and environmental law.
Richard received his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University before going on to earn his law degree from Tulane University. Following graduation, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Nauman Scott, former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. Later, he returned to Tulane to receive a Master of Law degree in energy and environmental law, and soon after, he accepted a position as an adjunct faculty professor at the school, where he presents the school’s “Marine Insurance II” course to seniors and graduate students.
Richard is admitted to the State Bars of Louisiana and Texas and is licensed to practice before all state and federal courts in the states as well as the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has received the honor of an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell for professional excellence, and he frequently lends his expertise on maritime law, marine insurance and more to the community through speeches and presentations.
