Robert A. Cooper, a member of the firm’s Board of Directors, focuses his practice in all areas of real estate law, construction law, condominium and homeowners association law, lien and foreclosure law, loan and financing transactions, commercial leasing, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate and business law.

Well-known and well-respected for his community association law practice, Robert has extensive experience providing legal counseling to boards of directors, officers and community association managers on the most effective way to operate a community association. In addition, Robert frequently represents community association managers, insurance brokers, engineers, certified public accountants and owners-committees with in-depth legal counseling regarding applications of statutes and various administrative decisions impacting community associations, including fiduciary obligations of community associations’ boards of directors. Robert regularly reviews and offers enforcement guidelines for community association governing documents, including Declaration of Condominium, Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions, Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws and Rules and Regulations documents. Robert is also experienced in guiding clients through all phases of litigation, particularly relating to insurance claims and Chinese drywall issues.

In addition to his focus on community association law, Robert’s extensive experience in real estate, construction and business law make him a valuable asset to his clients. Robert represents clients in development and construction of residential, commercial, high-rise and mixed-use developments; acquisition and divestitures of real property and improvements; and structuring and documenting complex financing transactions. These financing transactions include asset-based financing, loans to condominium and homeowners associations, development and construction loans, syndicated lending and participations, and mezzanine loans.

Robert formerly served as general legal counsel for a real estate development company specializing in the acquisition, design, development and construction of master-planned residential, commercial, high-rise and mixed-use communities, golf courses and golf-course communities, and retail shopping centers in Southwest Florida and Northeast Ohio.
