Robert has more than 20 years’ experience in insurance law and complementary areas, focusing primarily on property damage and associated recoveries, public and products liability and professional indemnity claims. His client experience is broad, including acting for Australia’s largest general insurers, Lloyds of London Syndicates, supermarkets, State Government, Universities, Mutuals, Councils, professionals, transport companies and the operators of large infrastructure and building projects.

Robert provides his clients with legal services that are not only technically sound but cost effective. He aims to constantly manage his clients’ expectations so there are “no surprises” in the cost and potential outcome of matters. Some specific experience and examples of matters on which Robert has acted include:

  • Numerous first-party property damage claims advice on policy response, quantum and subsequent recoveries involving proportionate liability issues
  • A $7 million spray drift claim involving complicated issues of causation and quantum
  • A large, property damage claim, involving the spread of fire and pollution onto surrounding properties and water courses, with policy response, liability and quantum being in dispute
  • Industrial accident, common law/VWA recovery claims in a wide variety of industries with associated contractual indemnity and double insurance issues
  • Volume “slip and trip” claims for insurers and occupiers, including a national supermarket
  • Defending professional indemnity claims for lawyers, accountants, insurance brokers, salary packaging service providers, hospitals and a wide variety of professionals in the allied health area
  • Consumer protection and related liability claims involving building professionals
  • Merit and Judicial Review Appeals in relation to decisions of Statutory Bodies
  • Injunction Applications
