Shantona co-founded Pape Chaudhury in 2018. She represents both individual and institutional clients in civil and commercial disputes. Her practice includes commercial litigation, class actions, torts, professional discipline, professional negligence, administrative, constitutional, and public international law. Shantona has considerable expertise in appeals: she has been counsel in over 30 cases at the Ontario Court of Appeal and has successfully argued at the Supreme Court of Canada. She also appears before the Superior Court, the Federal Court, and administrative tribunals.

Shantona’s proficiency is recognized by the profession: she is ranked in the Chambers Guide to Canada’s Leading lawyers, the Canadian Lexpert Directory, Best Lawyers, and Benchmark Litigation. Lexpert named her a ‘Rising Star’ in 2017, and she named to Benchmark Litigation’s ‘Under 40 Hot List’ in 2018 and 2019. Shantona’s skills are also recognized by the courts; she has been appointed amicus curiae by both the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Canada.

Shantona is the co-Executive Director of the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute, a national non-profit organization offering advocacy training to counsel appearing before the Supreme Court of Canada. She is a former law clerk to the Hon. Ian Binnie, C.C., Q.C. Shantona is fluently bilingual in English and French and was called to the Bar in both Ontario and Québec in 2007. She obtained her B.C.L. (Master’s in Law) from the University of Oxford; a B.C.L./LL.B. from McGill University; and her M.A. & B.A.H. from Queen’s University. Prior to starting practice, she trained as a Middle Temple Fox Scholar pupil barrister in London, interned at the UN International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, interned at the Parliament of Canada, and worked in the music industry.
