Stephen F. Butterfield

Stephen Butterfield is a trial attorney with a wealth of experience in insurance coverage, casualty defense and trial and appellate litigation. When working with his clients, he believes a collaborative process produces the best results to meet their goals.

As an insurance law attorney, Stephen Butterfield’s practice has led him to represent some of the most recognized insurers. In turn, this has allowed him the opportunity to try cases in both jury and bench trials. Most of his trial practice has centered around personal injury claims from both the plaintiff and defense side having to do with automobile accidents and premises liability. Aside from insurers, Stephen has extensive experience with commercial litigation involving small to mid-size institutions and state and local governments. These types of cases, with his variety of clients, have led him to oral arguments before the Louisiana First Circuit and Second Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Stephen strives to build an individualized relationship with each of his clients. He works to understand his client’s goals and objectives in order to deliver the most efficient and cost-effective outcome. Whether it’s a soft-spoken approach needed to negotiate a settlement or its aggressively litigating a case to verdict, Stephen can provide a solution to fit the organization.

Prior to joining Lugenbuhl, Stephen was a law clerk for Presiding Justice Jess Dickinson at the Mississippi Supreme Court and was proud to be an Adjunct Professor of Legal Writing at Mississippi College School of Law. Currently, his professional accolades include being a member of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute.
