Steven Rizzi is a partner in the IP Litigation Practice of Foley & Lardner LLP where he focuses his practice on patent litigation and counseling. He has represented clients in numerous patent litigations involving electrical, mechanical and computer-related disciplines, with a particular emphasis on matters involving the Internet, telecommunications and television-related technologies. Mr. Rizzi has experience in all aspects of patent litigation, including primary responsibility in patent litigations for numerous major corporations. He is past chair of the firm’s China Practice.
Mr. Rizzi's commitment to client service and ability to navigate through complex legal, factual and technical matters have allowed him to develop efficient and effective strategies for obtaining successful results for his clients, including favorable settlements, pre-trial rulings, and judgments. In addition, he has counseled clients on both litigation-avoidance practices and in connection with patent and other intellectual property issues arising in the context of complex, technology-driven corporate transactions and licensing agreements.
Mr. Rizzi has litigated cases covering a wide array of products and services in different industries. His experience includes cases involving semiconductor packaging, machining techniques for aircraft engine components, wireless telephony, interactive television, television/Internet convergence, on-line games, satellite television, optical disk storage technology and packaging designs, electronic program guides, sports equipment, fiber optic communications devices and financial products. In addition, he has counseled clients on numerous other matters involving these and other technologies. Mr. Rizzi is also a frequent author and speaker on patent litigation topics.
In 2010, the Legal 500 recognized Mr. Rizzi for patent litigation. He has been selected for inclusion in the 2008 - 2012 New York Super Lawyers® lists and was selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2013 and 2014 editions of The Best Lawyers in America®.
Mr. Rizzi is admitted to practice in New York and before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit; U.S. District Court, District of Colorado; and U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
