Thomas A. Esposito was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut. He graduated from Notre Dame High School of West Haven in 1983. After studying two years at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, he received his B.S. in Criminal Justice at The University of New Haven.
Thom received his law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law in 1990 and was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in the same year.
In 1991 he started the law firm of Esposito & Volza, where his practice developed into the areas of divorce, custody, child protection. Assisted Reproductive Technology law and open-adoption agreements. In 2006, Thom became a Co-Founding Member and Partner at the law firm of Welty Esposito & Wieler LLC.
Throughout his career, Thom has regularly served as a special master in the New Haven Family Court and at the Regional Family Trial Docket. Thom has acted as a mediator in the Judicial Branch’s Child Protection Mediation Program and has served on several Connecticut Judicial Branch Committees and Task Forces including the Juvenile Practice Book Revisions Task Force; Training, Standards and Qualifications of Child Protection Attorneys Committee; Non-Adversarial Dispute Resolution Committee; Committee on Uniformity of Court Procedures in Family and Juvenile Matters.
Thom has lectured statewide at conferences and seminars on the topics of custody, visitation, child protection litigation, open adoption, and child protection mediation.
As an expansion of his child protection practice, Thom has been representing foster and adoptive parents privately and through the Connecticut Association of Foster and Adoptive Families since 2000, negotiating and drafting open adoption agreements in child protection cases.
In 2010, Thom received his certification from The National Association of Counsel for Children as a Certified Child Welfare Law Specialist.
Thom is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at Quinnipiac University School of Law where he teaches Advanced Juvenile Law: Child Protection Practice in Connecticut.
In May of 2020, Thom earned a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Connecticut State University.
Thom has been selected to the 2016-2020 Connecticut Super Lawyers® List in the practice of Family Law. Each year, no more than 5% of the lawyers in the state are selected to receive this honor.
