As a litigator, Will Prince’s work is often adversarial. But it is his focus on high-quality legal work and the diversity of cases, not a love of confrontation, that led him to become one of Virginia’s most reputable trial attorneys.
“It’s the variety. It’s an appreciation for the details. Every case is different, and I enjoy applying my knowledge and learning about each issue to solve puzzles and problems for clients,” says Will. “My best marketing is the work I do for my clients. I believe if you do good work, prove your competence and confidence, and communicate well, clients will keep calling you — and they will tell others about you.”
At the end of the day, Will understands that results are important. He likes to win. He represents businesses and financial institutions across a broad range of complex disputes. His approachability and confidence has earned the trust of lead attorneys, both out-of-state and abroad, as local counsel in state and federal courts in Virginia. He and his ThompsonMcMullan colleagues are familiar faces in front of judges and peer attorneys in state and federal courts throughout Virginia.
Will’s practice has run the gamut of complex civil litigation as trial counsel. He has experience as a first-chair trial and appellate attorney, successfully arguing dispositive motions in state and federal court. He has managed large-scale document productions (including issues related to privilege, confidentiality, privacy, and relevance), and handled discovery issues involving the management, preservation, and production of electronically stored information. He has also conducted depositions outside the U.S. in accordance with the Hague Service Convention.
Will maintains a significant bankruptcy practice, regularly advising both secured and unsecured creditors and other parties involved in Chapter 7 and 11 proceedings. He has led clients through such notable bankruptcy cases such as Toys “R” Us, Health Diagnostic Laboratory, LandAmerica Financial Group, Circuit City Stores, Alpha Natural Resources, and Patriot Coal.
Prior to joining the firm, Will served as a law clerk for the Hon. Jackson L. Kiser of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia. During law school, he completed a judicial externship with the Hon. M. Hannah Lauck, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia. He is listed among the “Legal Elite” in the Young Lawyers by Virginia Business magazine and is regularly recognized as a “Rising Star” in business bankruptcy by Virginia Super Lawyers.
