For nearly four decades, David Pollock has practiced family law to help individuals and families as they go through tough times. He is a founding member of Pollock Begg and was previously a partner and head of the Matrimonial Law Group at Reed Smith LLP.
David focuses on the economics of pre-marital agreements, separation, divorce, or unmarried partners, estate planning, business and family succession planning, equitable distribution, support, and alimony. He works with both traditional divorces and large cases that require complex business valuation, framing of assets, net disposable income, taxation, and all aspects of complicated financial matters involved in such cases.
David sees the roots of his desire to practice law in his family's history of helping people. His father was a general practice physician and his mother was a social worker whose focus included marriage issues. He learned from them the value of taking care of individual people and families. He began his legal career doing civil trial work, which led to divorce work in the Family Divisions and Domestic Relations Sections of Western Pennsylvania. The enjoyment of family law stayed with him as he founded a law practice, then practiced at Reed Smith, and as he founded Pollock Begg in 2001.
In his spare time, David is very social and active and can often be found participating at Temple Sinai, the Jewish Community Center, around his neighborhood and in the community in a variety of volunteer activities. He and his wife, who retired from a nearly 40-year career, enjoy travel and frequently coordinate trips with family law conventions and conferences around the United States and Europe. They also frequently travel to New York to be with their two sons, daughters-in-law, and two granddaughters.
David admired his father's 50-year career as a small town general practice physician and his uncle, who worked as a merchant for 50 years before retiring to pursue all his pent-up interests, attending the Community College of Allegheny County from age 65 to 90 to become the first recipient of the Exceptional Student Award and was one of the CCAC Boyce Campus Dean's advisors. He became a well-known painter, and created, nurtured, and fostered many community programs still active today. He taught David that family comes before anything else in the world.

As a Scranton Preparatory School student, 18-year-old Brian McDonnell traveled to Mexico City for one of the most eye-opening and influential experiences of his life. As a participant in a service program called Los Hermanos (“The Brothers”), he spent a month living and working in an orphanage for boys. Attorney McDonnell’s Jesuit education at Prep, and his experience with Los Hermanos in particular, instilled in him a value for social justice and inspired him to pursue law as a profession to serve others in need.
Attorney McDonnell graduated from Scranton Prep in 1998, and received a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Lehigh University in 2002. During his junior year of college, he completed the Washington Semester Program at American University in Washington, D.C., and interned at the Justice Department’s Office of Justice Programs. In his senior year, Attorney McDonnell traveled to Hong Kong and mainland China with Lehigh’s Martindale Center of the College of Business and Economics. There, he met with various government and business leaders and gathered data on the impact of economic restructuring on Hong Kong’s workforce. His research was published in the Martindale Center’s journal Perspectives on Business and Economics. As a President’s Scholar at Lehigh, he earned a tuition-free fifth year in which he pursued a master’s degree in political science, which he received in 2003.
As a part-time job throughout college, Attorney McDonnell worked in collaboration with a child psychologist in the Bethlehem and Easton area, tutoring and teaching studying skills to high school students with learning disabilities.
Following Lehigh, he received a full scholarship to The Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law. While at Dickinson, Attorney McDonnell was a member of the Penn State Law Review. As a law student, he interned at the Governor’s Policy Office in Harrisburg, was a summer law clerk for Judge Peter Paul Olszewski Sr. of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, and was a Summer Associate at Hourigan, Kluger & Quinn. He also had the opportunity to study abroad via Penn State at the University of Florence School of Law.
Attorney McDonnell graduated from Dickinson in May 2006 and passed the Pennsylvania Bar Examination in July 2006 on his first attempt. After graduating from law school, he chose to return home to Northeastern Pennsylvania and serve the community where he was raised. He began working for HKQ as an associate in August 2006 and has remained there ever since. He is now a principal on the firm’s Personal Injury Team. His practice concentrates on personal injury, auto accidents and medical malpractice cases. Since becoming a lawyer, he has worked exclusively on behalf of accident victims and their families.
Attorney McDonnell is admitted to practice in the courts throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Pennsylvania Association for Justice, the Wilkes-Barre Law and Library Association and its Young Lawyers’ Division, and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.
In his spare time, Attorney McDonnell has volunteered with the Scranton Council of Literacy Advance (SCOLA)/United Neighborhood Centers as a certified English as a Second Language (ESL) and adult literacy tutor. He and his wife have two daughters and reside in Clarks Summit.
