Since 1996, Shannon Fellin has dedicated her legal career to tackling complex matters in the practice area of workers' compensation law, focusing exclusively on representing companies, local municipalities, colleges and hospitals when legal claims are brought against them. Fellin started at Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin, P.C., considered one of the nation's top civil litigation and defense firms, in 2002. She currently serves as an attorney and shareholder in the firm’s workers' compensation department based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
In her time at the firm, Fellin has worked closely with employers nationwide to further develop existing employment policies and procedures to help reduce workers' compensation exposure and educate employers on the Workers' Compensation Act. Recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2009, Fellin is currently being honored as "Lawyer of the Year" for Workers' Compensation Law - Employers in Harrisburg for 2022.
Of her recent recognition and legal career, Fellin stated: "I always take a hands-on approach to working with clients, actively engaging them in an open dialogue regarding issues relevant to their business. I believe one of the keys to my success is that I am a good listener. As a workers' compensation defense attorney, it is always gratifying to represent employers successfully. Many individuals out there bring up false or inflated claims, which weigh heavily on the workers' compensation system. I enjoy working collaboratively with both my clients and colleagues on my team. I also relish being on the front end of decision-making and determining the best evidence to present in defense of the claim. There's nothing better than being part of a successful outcome that enables my client to get back to focusing on what is truly important—running their company."
A graduate of the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State University, Fellin is a longtime member of the Pennsylvania and Dauphin County Bar Associations. With nearly 30 years of legal experience, Fellin, like many working in the legal industry at the time, felt the immediate impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on firm operations, only recently transitioning out of a virtual space. "When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the transition to a virtual practice was quite daunting. With state mandates changing, like most of my colleagues, I am eager to return to an in-person legal setting, allowing for interaction with judges, attorneys and claimants."
Concluded Fellin: "The most accomplished attorneys I know all take client relations very seriously. Now more than ever, being accessible to my clients is what makes the difference. My clients know they can rely on me for prompt and accurate recommendations on all aspects of the workers' compensation process. I strive to provide pragmatic advice to avoid and reduce litigation. To be successful, one not only needs to understand the law but the client's business as well. I think that clearly understanding the client's position and posture toward the litigation builds the foundation for long-lasting client relationships."
