Since 1947, CaseyGerry has fought to protect the rights of victims – playing a key role in some of Southern California’s most high profile cases. In the last year alone, the firm’s attorneys have achieved multi-million dollar settlements for many victims of devastating injuries – from a seriously injured young football player to those severely injured in cycling, aviation and automobile accidents.
Throughout the firm history, CaseyGerry attorneys have successfully represented individuals, businesses, and other associations against many of the largest corporations in the world. Our firm is closely affiliated with the American Association for Justice (AAJ), formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA). The world's largest trial bar, AAJ promotes justice and fairness for injured persons, safeguards victims' rights—particularly the right to trial by jury—and strengthens the civil justice system through education and disclosure of information critical to public health and safety.
As the oldest plaintiffs law firm in San Diego, we have had two partners serve as president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and one partner serve as president of the California State Bar. CaseyGerry attorneys have been listed among the Top 100 Lawyers in California and the Top Ten Lawyers in San Diego, and are currently featured in Super Lawyers Magazine and Best Lawyers in America. Over the years, members of CaseyGerry have been featured in numerous local, regional and legal publications for their achievements, as well as listed in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. In addition, one partner is a co-author of the widely read legal treatise "The California Automobile Collision Handbook" published by LexisNexis Publishing Co.
The attorneys at CasyGerry specialize in many types of litigation -- from complex pharmaceutical and medical device cases to premises and product liability, serious personal injury and traumatic brain injury. Our team is at the forefront of complex medical issues related to brain injury, including Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease thought to be caused by repeat concussions or blows to the head, and Second Impact Syndrome (SIS) a condition in which the brain swells rapidly after a person suffers a second concussion.
CaseyGerry partners serve on the Plaintiffs Steering Committee which is overseeing the national MDL litigation against the National Football League, and were involved in vetting the deal that resulted in a tentative $765 million settlement for former players. Additionally, CaseyGerry is representing the four children of Junior Seau, the former San Diego Chargers player who committed suicide last year at the age of 43.
The firm has participated in many landmark cases over the years, from helping more than 1,000 fishermen in the wake of the Exxon Valdez oil spill to representation of victims of asbestos exposure and asbestos-related illnesses. It was also a major player in California’s tobacco litigation, which saw a recovery of some $25 billion. Firm attorneys have played a role in some of San Diego’s most high profile cases, among them a nearly $5 million settlement for a severely injured high school football player, an $8 million class action settlement with the City of Chula Vista and a $7.5 million settlement in a complex premises liability case. Other recent litigation includes a $9.5 million settlement for victims of the Reno air catastrophe and a $32 million settlement with Bank of America in a landmark robo-calling case.
Additionally, during one of our nation's most challenging times, CaseyGerry attorneys played a key role in developing the legislation and policies that led to Trial Lawyers Care (TLC), an unprecedented program which provided pro bono legal support to the families of the victims of 9/11 – enabling hundreds upon hundreds of families to better cope with the aftermath of this tragic event. The program, in which volunteer lawyers represented more than 1,700 families, was the largest pro bono undertaking in the history of American jurisprudence.
The firm gives back on a local level as well. CaseyGerry attorneys and staff strive to support the communities they serve, and are involved in and have held leadership positions with community and charitable organizations such as the HeadNorth, the Civil Justice Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, the United Jewish Federation, the San Diego County (Del Mar) Fair Board, the San Diego Jewish Academy and the San Diego Kiwanis Foundation. Our attorneys have also been strong financial supporters of many important organizations, among them the Paul Jacobson Spinal Cord Foundation, Las Patronas, Promises2Kids, Beads of Courage (at Rady Children's Hospital), USD School of Law and Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego.
