Alexander Brougham joined Adelman & Gettleman in September 2012 and focuses his practice in business bankruptcy, reorganization, and commercial litigation.
Alex is an active participant in both the transactional and litigation sides of business bankruptcy and reorganization, representing clients ranging from individuals to Fortune 500 companies.
In recognition of his work, Alex was selected to join the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges' prestigious Next Generation program, which each year inducts only 40 bankruptcy practitioners nationwide who "show the potential to distinguish themselves in future years as highly respected members of the bankruptcy bar." He was also, from 2018 through 2020, selected as a “Rising Star” and “Emerging Lawyer” by Illinois Super Lawyers and Illinois Leading Lawyers, respectively.
Before joining the Firm, Alex served as law clerk to two bankruptcy judges in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts: first the Hon. Joel B. Rosenthal, then the Hon. Melvin S. Hoffman when Judge Rosenthal retired. Alex then served a one-year term as law clerk to the Hon. A. Benjamin Goldgar of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois. During law school, he also completed several full-time internships, including one in which he served as a de facto law clerk to the Hon. Bruce A. Selya of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Alex lives with his wife and two daughters in Kenilworth, Illinois. He recently served on the board of trustees of Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago..
