Colleen Murphey’s practice focuses on business and employment litigation in state court, federal court, and arbitration. She also has significant experience handling Title IX matters and representing clients in complex marital estate litigation.

Colleen is an honors graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, where she served as an editor for The Review of Litigation. During her time as a member of The Review of Litigation, the journal published her note on complex jurisdictional issues related to international art lending.

Prior to joining Weisbart Springer Hayes in 2018, Colleen was an associate at the Houston office of Baker Botts LLP.

When Colleen was in kindergarten, her teacher predicted she would be a journalist. That prediction wasn’t far off—Colleen’s favorite aspects of the day-to-day life of a litigator are getting to the bottom of the facts at issue and legal writing.

While Colleen is known throughout the firm and by her clients for her superb legal research and writing skills, she is also invaluable at trial. During her time at Weisbart Springer Hayes, Colleen has been a part of several winning trial teams in court and arbitration. Colleen regularly advises clients on employment disputes and assists employers large and small in responding to charges of discrimination made to the Texas Workforce Commission and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Colleen also has extensive experience representing universities in defending discrimination, deliberate indifference, and erroneous outcome claims brought by current and former students under Title IX, as well as premises liability and negligence claims. Colleen’s practice also includes advising clients going through divorce on matters related to their community property business interests.

Colleen appreciates that being a party to a lawsuit is generally not a position anyone wants to be in, and she is glad to be able to assist clients in navigating the litigation process to reach the best possible resolution.
