García Montúfar Sarmiento

GUILLERMO GARCÍA MONTUFAR SARMIENTO

Born in Lima, Peru, in 1955.

Education: Mr. García Montúfar earned his law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and was admitted to the Lima Bar of Lawyers in 1982. He earned a Masters Degree in Civil and Corporate Law from San Martin de Porres University. He received a specialized degree studying the United States Legal System at the University of Wisconsin's Law School. He also received a specialized degree in Negotiation, Mediation, and Conciliation from Harvard Law School. He is a professor of property law at the University of Lima's Law School and an arbitrator of the Lima Chamber of Commerce, the American Chamber of Commerce, the Office of Government Contracts (OSCE), among others, and an out-of-court mediator. He specializes in real estate law and civil contracts.

Experience: Mr. García Montúfar is the head of the real estate department of the firm. As such, he has been the principal outside counsel of several prominent entities that deal with real estate investment in Peru and property formalization programs in Peru other countries, such as El Salvador, Haiti, Mexico, Egypt, and Tanzania. He has counseled the Ministry of Justice in topics of mediation and reconciliation, and he counsels the World Bank and the Institute of Liberty and Democracy (ILD) in the areas of administrative and civil law, among others.

He has also provided specialized legal counsel to one of the most prominent entities in real estate investment in Peru, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church), which frequently acquires tracts of land for its institutional purposes, requiring prior evaluation and clearance of the respective legal titles.
