J. Scott "Scott" Bischoff II
Recognized since 2024
Charleston, South Carolina
Criminal Defense: General Practice
Criminal Defense: White-Collar
In our modern day rush-to-judgment society, people charged with crimes are often convicted in the court of public opinion long before they ever step foot in a courtroom. Despite citizens of this country being innocent until proven guilty, the reality is that in this day and age you have to fight for your innocence.
I pride myself in knowing that I can be the voice that helps a client through what is perhaps the most difficult time in their life. Our team of experienced professionals is dedicated to every client that walks through our door. As a group, we work hard to ensure our clients will receive the very best possible result in every case.
Professional Experience
Upon graduating from law school, Scott went to work for the Office of the First Circuit Public Defender where he excelled in providing high-quality representation to indigent citizens of Dorchester County, just north of Charleston. During his three years as public defender, Scott represented hundreds of defendants in all areas of criminal law and served as lead and assistant counsel during numerous trials ranging from serious felonies to misdemeanors and DUIs. Scott left the public defender office in 2011 to join Savage Law Firm in Charleston where he continued to represent clients in all areas of criminal law, professional licensing, and personal injury.
During his time at Savage Law Firm, Scott successfully managed a large caseload and increased his commitment to community service by frequently representing guests of the local homeless shelter, 180 Place, and becoming more involved in South Carolina Special Olympics. In August of 2018, Scott partnered up with Chris Adams to form Adams & Bischoff, P.C. Scott is highly regarded among former clients, colleagues and the judiciary for his professionalism, outstanding work ethic, and dedication to the practice of law.
Education & Background
Scott received his undergraduate Biology degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his law degree from the Charleston School of Law. During law school, Scott was a member of the Moot Court Board and won the Founders’ Upperclass Moot Court Competition as a 3L. He also graduated with ProBono Service distinction.
Personal Interest & Activities
Born in Washington, D.C., Scott spent most of his childhood years with his mom, dad, and sister in a small town in eastern North Carolina, half-way up I-95, named Wilson. After graduating high school from Greenfield School in Wilson, Scott followed in his mother’s and father’s footsteps and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he majored in Biology.
After three years of Biology and Chemistry, Scott modified his career path away from medical school toward the practice of law. In 2005, Scott was accepted at the Charleston School of Law, where he frequently speaks as a guest lecturer, and three years later graduated as a member of the school’s second graduating class. During his decade of commitment to representing and helping people in his community, regardless of the circumstances or the allegations, Scott has tirelessly fought for those who cannot fight for themselves and considers it a true privilege and honor to practice law as a criminal defense lawyer in one of the greatest cities in the country, Charleston.
In his limited spare time, Scott enjoys playing golf, watching UNC basketball, and spending time with his wife and two children who live in West Ashley.
