A Charleston native, Jim returned to his beloved hometown after practicing at two firms ranked in American Lawyer’s top 50 list.

Jim leads the firm’s business law practice. He works regularly with corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships on shareholder buy-outs, private securities offerings, and business purchase and sale agreements, including business succession issues. His practice areas include:

Jim is Vice Chair of the South Carolina Bar’s Corporate, Banking and Securities Law Section, and serves on the Governing Counsel of South Carolina Law Initiative housed at University of South Carolina School of Law. He is a past member of the South Carolina Bar’s Judicial Qualification Commission and, along with his law partners, is a co-author of the 2018 SC Bar publication South Carolina Business Law Handbook: A Practical Guide for Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and Their Counsel. He is Chair of the Board of Trustees at Porter-Gaud School, and is an active member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church.

He and his wife, Courtney, live in Mount Pleasant with their two sons. Jim enjoys playing basketball and football with the boys and being outdoors with his family and their English Springer Spaniel, Bass. Jim’s interests also include birding and amateur wine making.
