James H. Laskey is chair of the firm’s cross-disciplinary Solar Energy Industry Group. He has gained extensive experience negotiating agreements for solar energy installations, purchase power agreements, and agreements for the creation and sale of the various renewable energy certificates and other incentives that have been made available for solar projects in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, including SRECs, TRECs, and other RECs. Jim was ranked in New Jersey’s inaugural “Energy & Natural Resources” section of the Chambers USA 2021 Guide, one of the oldest and most prestigious legal listings in the world.

Additionally, Jim maintains a practice in other areas of administrative and government regulatory law, including public utility, telecommunications, energy, and antitrust issues. For over ten years, he served as counsel to the Independent Energy Producers of New Jersey, a trade association for the power generation industry in New Jersey.

Jim was Chair of the Public Utility Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association in 1997 and 1998 and served as Chairman of the Board for the Somerset County Business Partnership. He has been selected for inclusion on the list of The Best Lawyers in America© for more than 20 years and was selected as the Energy Law “Lawyer of the Year” for the Newark, New Jersey, region in 2013. A description of the selection methodology can be found here. No aspect of this advertisement has been approved by the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

In addition to regulated industries, Jim is a past Chairman of the firm’s Business Law Practice Group. His business practice is primarily transactional in nature, including mergers, acquisitions, licensing agreements for life science and technology companies, and product supply and distribution arrangements, especially for consumer products and manufacturing companies.
