James N. "Jim" Mueller

Family law matters play no favorites, and it affects couples of every distinction. Jim Mueller is well-versed in the wide range of issues involved. As Managing Partner with Verner Brumley Mueller Parker PC, board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in family law and a member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, Jim's practice concentrates on complex divorce matters and contested custody litigation. He approaches all his divorce cases with the goal of helping clients divide their assets without unnecessarily dividing the family, especially where the interests of children are concerned.

Jim's reputation for honesty and integrity serves clients well in skillfully negotiating with opposing counsel to resolve cases. His courtroom experience also helps him to lead clients through the litigation process while managing their expectations. He has successfully litigated child custody and complex property cases before juries and judges in Dallas, Collin, Denton and surrounding counties throughout Texas. In every case, Jim strives to protect the client's interests and assets, while providing valuable counsel. Jim's expertise includes cases involving child custody, business valuation, closely held business interests, relocation, characterization of property, protective orders and pre- and post-marital agreements.

Jim also offers a unique sensitivity to the needs of same-gender couples. Jim's expertise in helping same-sex couples includes creating partnership and custody agreements. In same-sex divorces and custody litigation, Jim has represented both biological and non-biological parents. He has successfully argued before a jury in Dallas County that his client, a same-sex partner, be appointed sole managing conservator of the child. The Texas Supreme Court has also upheld Jim's argument in an Appellate Brief and overruled a mandamus made by the non-biological mother in a same-sex, international custody dispute.

Jim received his bachelor's degree magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Rhodes College, and graduated cum laude from the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University. Jim is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal specialization in family law and is a member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists. He is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell, the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and he was selected for inclusion in the list of Rising Stars and Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters service printed in Texas Monthly Magazine.
