Jean-Simon Schoenholz is a versatile litigator with a bilingual, bijural practice that covers all types of civil, commercial, regulatory, administrative and constitutional matters. Jean-Simon has significant experience before the Federal Courts, he regularly appears before all levels of court in Ontario and before the Supreme Court of Canada. Jean-Simon is also licensed in Québec.
He regularly works on complex matters and frequently advises clients on issues of public, regulatory and administrative law. In particular, this includes bringing or responding to applications for judicial review on behalf of federally regulated clients, crown corporations, and other federal bodies. Jean-Simon also has significant experience participating in high-profile public inquiries.
Jean-Simon frequently advises clients on a wide range of regulatory issues including those relating to official languages obligations. In addition, he regularly advises and represents insurance companies on coverage matters.
Prior to joining us, Jean-Simon served as a judicial law clerk to the Honourable Justice Suzanne Côté at the Supreme Court of Canada. He had previously served as a judicial law clerk at the Federal Court of Canada.Jean-Simon teaches Administrative Law with Carleton University's Department of Law and Legal Studies. He has coached the University of Ottawa's team competing in the Laskin Moot in administrative and constitutional law. He is a member of The Advocates' Society, Young Advocates Standing Committee, and the Canadian Bar Association, Supreme Court of Canada Liaison. He regularly volunteers with Pro Bono Ontario's Supreme Court Leave Application Assistance Program. Jean-Simon is currently on assignment as counsel with the Public Order Emergency Commission.
