Jeff Barron resolves complicated intellectual property disputes. Jeff thrives when challenged with scenarios that seem impossible or that are at the cutting edge of technology and the law. Jeff’s dedication to being prepared gives him and his clients great flexibility when navigating the unexpected waters of high-stakes litigation and complex IP disputes.
With clients that include startups and Fortune 100 companies, Jeff’s nationwide IP practice is focused on defending and prosecuting disputes involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, internet security, the Stored Communications Act, media law, and complex commercial litigation. Jeff also has a vibrant appellate practice, and has represented clients in various appeals in the Sixth, Seventh, Eleventh and Federal circuits.
Outside of the courtroom, Jeff advises on patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy and electronic security matters. He also manages brand strategy that goes beyond securing patent, trademark and copyright protection and extends into making critical decisions early in the process to maximize coverage while minimizing cost. Jeff knows, from nearly two decades of experience, that properly protecting his clients’ IP and proprietary technology is critical to realizing the full potential for ROI. As a result, he works diligently to safeguard client assets in order to ultimately ensure defensibility in the event litigation ensues.
Jeff is valued for his immediate understanding of the complex technologies he defends. Jeff is at his best when faced with challenging disputes over sophisticated technological innovations that define and impact market share. With claims valued into the hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, Jeff is known for executing the right strategy and recommendations even in the most difficult circumstances.
Active in pro bono intellectual property matters and civil and criminal claims, Jeff’s first pro bono assignment in 1998, as a summer associate at a prior firm in Chicago, was to assist in a challenge of lifetime insurance policy caps for AIDS treatment on behalf of two anonymous plaintiffs and Lambda Legal Defense Fund.
