José Antonio has a Law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Madrid (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) with Honours.

He holds a Master's degree in Business Law from the Madrid Bar Association (Spain); Advanced Program in Labor Relations, Instituto de Empresa (IE Law School, Spain); and General Management Program (PDG) Instituto de Empresa (IE Business School, Spain).

He was also awarded an Advanced Studies Diploma by the Florida International University, Law School, Miami (USA).

Experience.

José Antonio has extensive professional experience in employment and labor law and is considered to be one of the top lawyers in Spain in this practice area.

He focuses on advising companies on all aspects of individual [advice on the day-to-day running of the business; employment contracts, reductions in social security contributions and special working conditions; remuneration and compensation systems (bonus systems, flexible remuneration, shares and stock options, pension commitments); disciplinary system; holding in abeyance and termination of individual employment relationships; professional artists and sportsmen and women; expatriate workers: due diligence reviews and advice on restructuring processes (acquisitions, mergers, spin-offs, carve-outs); etc.] and collective employment law, particularly within the context of acquisitions, restructuring and outsourcing transactions, as well as with regard to company pension schemes, equality plans, collective agreements, collective dismissals, substantial changes to working conditions, etc.

This includes conducting negotiations with work councils and trade unions. He further advises board members, managing directors and executive employees.

José Antonio is one of a select group of lawyers in Spain with proven experience and know-how in all aspects of collective bargaining in multiple sectors. He has advised on both direct negotiations and on resolving collective disputes (including strikes) through conciliation, mediation and arbitration. In this work, he has also dealt with all types of collective bargaining regulatory instruments. He is especially skilled in advising on employment law strategy.

He is also an expert in the new working models (based in the Industry 4.0, Green Jobs, Smart Cities, Gig Economy, etc.) and in employee data protection and the effects of social media on working conditions.

He regularly represents clients before arbitration bodies and labor courts throughout Spain, up to the level of the Spanish Supreme Court.

He has a lot of experience in European labor law and he is an expert in defending clients before the Court of Justice of the European Union (Luxembourg).

Throughout his extensive professional career, José Antonio has been involved in a many great legal actions, defending the interests of important clients from the energy, services, chemical, logistic, foods, infrastructures, construction, real estate and automotive sectors, among others.

He also currently acts as arbitrator and mediator at renowned institutions in Spain (Court of the Madrid Bar Association, SIMA Foundation, etc.).

Furthermore, José Antonio serves as independent legal advisor of the Spanish Confederation of Employers' Organizations (CEOE).

Academic and Publishing Collaborations.

Jose Antonio is a lecturer in employment and labor Law at the University of Madrid (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and other relevant international law schools in his specialty areas.

He regularly publishes articles on employment law matters. He also acts as expert speaker in seminars, congress, webinars, conferences, TV programs and in-house training courses on employment law-related topics.
