Joe Walsh received a B.S. degree, with honors, in Nautical Science from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York in 1983, when upon graduation he served on active duty in the United States Navy. With over 26 years of continued service on active duty and reserve tours, he retired as a Captain from the U.S. Navy. Captain Walsh was also licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard to serve as Master (1600 tons) and Second Mate (unlimited) onboard commercial vessels. He received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Arizona in 1989, and is a member of the California Bar.
Mr. Walsh associated with Keesal, Young & Logan in 1989 and became a shareholder in 1998. Mr. Walsh’s practice focuses primarily on oil and chemical pollution matters, casualty investigation, and crisis response. He has tried general maritime and admiralty law matters including claims for cargo damage, personal injury, and vessel damage. Mr. Walsh has also appeared in numerous regulatory and administrative hearing matters before the US Coast Guard, California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”), and the South Coast Air Quality Management District (“SCAQMD”).
