Joseph S. Sestay is senior counsel in the Construction Law Practice at Peckar & Abramson. He represents developers, owners, contractors, subcontractors, architects and engineers in construction-related claims, including owner-contractor and contractor-subcontractor disputes concerning breaches of contract, construction delay and inefficiency issues, mechanics' lien claims, contractor licensing issues, bond and insurance claims and construction defect claims. A number of these matters were assigned to the respective court's complex litigation department.
Mr. Sestay has also represented building products manufacturers/suppliers in construction disputes, and defended mold allegations relating to water intrusion claims. He has represented various commercial clients in products liability actions. Examples include medical/cosmetic products, electrical appliances, electrical transformers, food manufacturers/growers, building sealants and tool manufacturers.
Mr. Sestay is a licensed architect in the State of California, and was previously a project architect/manager for various institutional and private clients, including the City of Los Angeles, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and California Polytechnic University, as well as other major and modest developers of office and residential property. He has substantial construction administration experience as an architect for various commercial and institutional projects with respect to shop drawing review and processing, site observation and responding to Requests for Information from contractors. When he first graduated from architecture school, he was an assistant project manager for a modest general contractor specializing in public works projects. He is also a licensed real estate agent.
Mr. Sestay is admitted to practice in the State of California and in federal courts in the State of California. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association and the American Institute of Architects. He also serves as an arbitrator for the Orange County Bar Associations Mandatory Fee Arbitration Committee and has conducted mandatory settlement conferences for the San Bernardino Superior Court.
