Medical Malpractice Law - Plaintiffs
Julie Matonich has spent over two decades working to make a positive difference in the lives of her clients. She has been the lead counsel in numerous jury trials in state and federal court cases. Julie’s advocacy has earned her recognition by the Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers publications, and in 2010, she was named a Minnesota Lawyer of the Year. She is a member, by invitation, of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
Julie has a particular interest in cases involving obstetrical malpractice and pediatric malpractice where children have been harmed. In 2010, Julie was part of the trial team that achieved a record-breaking $23.2 million verdict on behalf of a young family in a catastrophic birth injury case. Through that case and others involving infants and children harmed by medical errors, she understands the special care required when children are involved and is a dedicated advocate for them and their families.
Before deciding in 2010 to focus exclusively on medical malpractice cases, Julie also represented clients in criminal matters in both state and federal courts for over ten years. Using her experience and insight into both the criminal legal and medical legal systems, she will take on cases in private practice, and pro bono in partnership with non-profit organizations, that involve inadequate healthcare for pregnant women who are incarcerated.
Community Involvement
Julie’s involvement with advocating for pregnant women and children extends beyond her legal practice. In 2015, she co-founded Children of Incarcerated Caregivers, a non-profit that works with student researchers to identify and promote evidence-based laws, policies, and programs that promote the best interests of children when their parents are involved in the criminal legal system. She also served for more than two decades as an Advisory Board Member for the Page Foundation, which supports students of color through scholarships and mentoring.
