Paul A. Melançon’s practice focuses on insurance law and encompasses all issues pertaining to property and casualty insurance policies (property insurance and liability insurance including professional liability, directors and officers’ liability and brokers’ liability), whether primary, excess or complementary.
The scope of Paul’s practice extends to civil liability, product liability, builders’ liability, personal injury liability and carriers’ liability. He has also been called upon to draft insurance policies and look into matters related to the interpretation of reinsurance treaties.Paul has extensive experience before the courts, having been called to plead many times before the civil courts of trial and appeal jurisdiction as well as before the Supreme Court of Canada.
He lectured at the École de formation professionnelle du Barreau du Québec in 1981 and 1982, served as columnist for Les Experts magazine in 1987 and 1988, and has authored feature insurance stories for the Revue du Barreau.
From 1994 to 1999, Paul sat on the Quebec Bar’s discipline committee and its arbitration committee. He was also a member of the Insurance and Civil Litigation Sections of the Canadian Bar Association.
