Paul Fruitman’s commercial litigation practice focuses on contract disputes, health law, real estate, departing employee cases, shareholder disputes and product liability. He has extensive experience acting for healthcare institutions and professionals in civil and regulatory proceedings. He also regularly acts as counsel to corporate directors and officers and in shareholder disputes and oppression claims.
Paul has appeared at all levels of court in Ontario, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal, and in a range of administrative and arbitral tribunals. He also regularly appears before the Toronto Commercial List.
Paul has acted as counsel in many major proceedings, including the $1 billion class action against SNC Lavalin and alleged nomination fraud involving the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. Paul’s current clients include the University Health Network, Facebook and Donald Trump.
Paul frequently presents on litigation topics, in particular trial advocacy and is a frequent instructor at Osgoode's Annual Intensive Trial Advocacy program. Paul is a member of the OBA’s Alternative Business Structures Task Force and the CBA’s working group for Solicitor-Client Privilege Claims at the Canadian border, and a past member of the OBA’s Civil Litigation Executive. He is a frequent contributor to The Advocates’ Journal and appears in the 2019 Annual Review of Civil Litigation and is an author of the Canada Chapter of the 2019 Chambers Global Practice Guide for Litigation.
