Reynaldo Velazquez focuses his practice on working with claims management companies and employment practices liability insurance companies to defend employers against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims.
In this regard Rey directly handles or oversees litigation throughout the country that involves many different industries, including fire departments, hospice care facilities, and many other private and public sector entities. Rey also spends a considerable amount of time defending wage and hour issues arising under the Fair Labor Standards Act and state minimum wage laws. He regularly represents companies in wage and hour matters, including litigation defense, overtime exemption analysis, minimum wage issues, and Department of Labor investigations. Although Rey represents a broad range of clients in a variety of industries, his wage and hour practice is highly concentrated in handling complex issues in the area of hospitality which includes, but is not limited to hotels and resorts, restaurants and bars, nightclubs, and gentlemen's clubs. He currently serves on the board of the Association of Club Executives and acts as an advisory attorney to the Association's Board of Directors. He is particularly knowledgeable on the issue of converting independent contractors to employees, and has represented board members and clubs during the conversion process.
Rey also represents employers in other labor and employment matters, including collective bargaining, union organizing drives, employment litigation, and government agency investigations. Earlier in his career, he served as the labor attorney for Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the City of Lake Worth, Florida.
