Richard Jacobs has been listed in Best Lawyers, both as a family law practitioner as well as for his mediation practice, since 2005. Named to Maryland Super Lawyers since 2007 when that recognition was established in Maryland, he was named to the magazine’s 2012 Top 100 Lawyers, a list of attorneys in all fields of practice.
Mr. Jacobs represents clients in complex family law matters. A partner of Hooper & Jacobs LLC, his practice focuses on cases involving the valuation and division of financial assets such as family businesses, partnership interests, professional practices, investments, as well as those related to spousal support and the parent child relationship.
A fellow of both the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Mr. Jacobs is co-director of the Institute for Family Law Associates of the AAML and held several offices of the state chapter before assuming the presidency of the Maryland AAML Chapter from 2005-2007. He has lectured for county bar associations throughout Maryland, for MICPEL and for the Maryland State Bar Association; until 2005 Mr. Jacobs was an adjunct professor of Family Law for his alma mater, the University of Baltimore School of Law. He has co-authored Marital Settlement Agreements, a textbook of the Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education for Lawyers, Inc., since 1995.
Certified as a mediator by the Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers, Mr. Jacobs also received Arbitration certification by the AAML and completed the AAML sponsored Harvard Negotiation Program
